Dear Aunty Pam,
Well, it’s happened again. Just because we got a little snowfall, my wife said we had to take in her brother, his two teen kids, and their stupid dog, who jumps all over everything and starts fighting with our dog.
We have to do this because they never prepare for losing power, never stock up on food or firewood, never do anything except camp here in our three-bedroom house. They eat us out of house and home, and leave their crap all over the place. Most of the time, their house never loses power, but they stay with us “just in case.”
I work from home and need my office space, without some kid listening to headbanging music all day in it. I told my wife I’d rather give them money for a hotel, but my wife got mad and said I was being unChristian.
Any advice?
Signed,
Angry
Dear Angry,
Sure, Aunty Pam has two words of advice for you: Days Inn. Or, if you like, Hampton Inn. Or Holiday Inn…not for the Clampetts currently squatting in your home, for YOU.
Honestly, I’m pretty much on board with helping anyone out after losing power or what have you, but from what you write, your in-laws are behaving like ingrates and seem quite unconcerned that you need peace and quiet to work. And in regards to your wife, well, perhaps this might be a good time to remind her that charity begins at home, so she can have the home while you bail.
Cheers, dears!!
Aunty Pam
