FOOTHILLS—The first winter weather of 2025 arrived on Friday, January 10, covering our area with light snow and ice.

According to the National Weather Service, Tryon and Columbus recorded approximately 2.2 inches of snow. Saluda had a higher accumulation, reporting 3.6 inches by 7 a.m. on Saturday, with Landrum seeing around 1 inch. Additionally, all areas experienced roughly 0.23 inches of ice layered on top of the snow.

All Polk County schools were closed on Monday as officials concluded that many roads in the county were still covered in ice and unsafe to travel. Spartanburg District One schools operated on a two-hour delay.
