SALUDA—The Historic Saluda Committee recently announced that it has officially been gifted the historic sanctuary of the Saluda Presbyterian Church following a unanimous vote by the Presbytery of Western North Carolina and a strong recommendation from church members. The church permanently closed recently after 130 years of service.

Construction of the sanctuary began in 1895 and was completed in 1896. Remarkably well-preserved, the committee says this historic building will be transformed into a museum that showcases Saluda’s vibrant history.

Since its inception in 2010, the Historic Saluda Committee has worked to protect and preserve Saluda’s history through various initiatives. The dream of establishing a museum has always been at the forefront of their efforts. Currently operating as an advisory committee to the City of Saluda, the committee is in the process of transitioning to a non-profit organization, enabling it to take full ownership of the church.
