R-S Central raced to an early advantage and never relinquished it Tuesday, handing Polk County a 69-44 setback in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference matchup in Rutherfordton.
The Hilltoppers (6-6, 2-1) snared a 22-9 lead by the end of the first quarter, then expanded that margin to 44-20 by the half. Riley Coldren had 14 first-half points and Jaden Watkins added 10 to power the early R-S surge.
Coldren finished with 21 points and Watkins had 18.
Gunnar Alm led Polk County, which played without junior post Aaron Jackson, with 17 points. Khristian Littlejohn added 12 points.
David Duffy had five points, with Jayce Edwards and Dallas Littlejohn each adding three. Khalil Austin and Chase Stansbury each finished with two points for Polk.
The Wolverines are set to next be in action on Tuesday, traveling to Chase.
