Renovations highlight artwork, enhance visitor experience
TRYON—Tryon Painters & Sculptors will soon unveil its renovation, funded by a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation.
The remodel includes refinished floors, an open floor plan, neutral walls, and updated ceilings. The changes aim to improve traffic flow and create a design that highlights the art while minimizing distractions.
The project has been in development for nearly a year and a half after the board decided to redesign the gallery.
“Vice President and co-curator Greg Wright, a former architect, contributed much of the design vision,” said Ann Stimm, TPS executive director. “The goal was to minimize the building’s presence and focus on the artwork. When you walk in, the bright white walls and dark ceiling ensure your attention is drawn to the art.”
Stimm added that the original pine floors were refinished without stain to preserve their natural look.
Future plans include applying for another grant to renovate the gift shop, update the façade, and install new signage. In 2025, TPS will launch a new logo, color scheme, and website.
“The front of the building will reflect our new colors — light and dark teal with a racing orange accent,” Stimm said.
The reception desk will also be rebuilt and relocated.
“We wanted to eliminate anything that distracts from the art,” said Cornelia Seibetta, TPS president. She noted that special care was taken to highlight the intricate metalwork surrounding the staircase, created by a former member and metalworker.
The expanded opening is scheduled for Saturday, January 25. The event, themed “Before and After,” will feature music, food, and refreshments.
