Dozens of trees uprooted, no injuries
MILL SPRING—On Monday, the National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in Polk County on Sunday, December 29. A team of NWS surveyors found evidence that an EF-0 tornado briefly touched down two miles northeast of Mill Spring at 8:13 a.m. that morning.
As reported on tryondailybulletin.com, a Tornado Warning was issued, along with a Tornado Watch for the first part of the day, as a series of storms swept through the area.
According to NWS officials, the tornado traveled approximately 0.89 miles and was 75 yards wide. It lasted about a minute before lifting northwest and crossing High Meadows Drive. The tornado uprooted dozens of trees and dissipated just south of Highway 108. No injuries were reported.
An EF-0 is categorized as a tornado with wind speeds between 65 and 85 miles per hour, typically causing only minor damage like broken tree branches or missing shingles.
On Friday, the NWS also confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down on December 29 in the Holly Springs area of Spartanburg County, roughly 20 minutes from Polk.
