LANDRUM– The Landrum Cardinals basketball teams had mixed results during the opening rounds of the 25th annual Battle at the Border Classic over the weekend, showcasing strong performances in some hard-fought games.

In the first round, the Cardinal boys cruised to a decisive 104-45 victory against the Lake Lure Classical Academy Raptors on Friday night.

Benett Edwards led the Cards with a double-double, scoring 11 points and dishing out 12 assists. On Saturday, Landrum faced off against the Woodruff Wolverines (7-3) in a tough battle at home. Despite a valiant effort, the Cardinals fell short, losing 65-61, bringing their record to 8-3 overall.

This set the stage for a matchup against the Chapman Panthers (3-8) on Monday, December 30th, at 5:30 PM in the third-place game.

The Landrum Girls’ team also experienced highs and lows over the weekend. They won on Friday with a convincing 63-32 victory over the Spartanburg Christian Academy Warriors. However, their hopes for a championship were dashed on Saturday when they narrowly lost to the Broome Centurions 41-39 in the semi-finals, bringing their season record to 5-6.

The Lady Cardinals will also face Chapman in the third-place game at 4:00 PM on Monday.
