In a recent study by U.S. News & World Report, a comprehensive ranking of 2,149 elementary schools across North Carolina, Polk County schools received high marks compared to the rest of the state.
Utilizing standardized scores on four key indicators, mathematics and reading proficiency, along with performance metrics for both subjects, the report developed a scoring system that ranges from 0 to 100 for each school evaluated.
According to the rankings, several Polk County schools demonstrated exceptional standards in education. Saluda Elementary secured the No. 124 position in the state, while Tryon Elementary followed closely at No. 136. Polk Central Elementary ranked at No. 203, and Sunny View Elementary placed at No. 520.
Notably, the report also included Lake Lure Classical Academy, located in Rutherford County, which achieved a rank of No. 114.
The ranking methodology withheld scores for schools in the 25th percentile or below, ensuring that only the highest-performing institutions were recognized. Additionally, unranked schools typically served specialized student groups or had insufficient enrollment or testing data for inclusion.
The release of this report not only showcases the dedication of educators and students within Polk County but also underscores the ongoing commitment to improving educational outcomes across the area.
