MILL SPRING – Marion “Bud” Hicks McAbee, 78, of Mill Spring, passed away, Monday afternoon, December 23, 2024.

A native of Polk County, he was the son of the late Hicks McAbee and Alcie O’Sullivan McAbee. Bud was a proud Veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam. Following his service to his country, Bud worked at the Label Mill in Columbus for 20 years, Stonecutter Mills in Spindale and Bommer Hinge in Landrum. Bud was a member of the V.F.W. Post in Mill Spring. Bud was an avid hunter, fisherman, raised game chickens and a C.B. Radio operator for many years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Mill Spring.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by six brothers, Harvey McAbee, Richard McAbee, Dennis McAbee, Craig McAbee, Edward McAbee and Bobby McAbee; one sister, Mary Ellen Shehan.

Surviving is one son, Phillip “Mac” McAbee (Sue) of Green Creek; two daughters, Tammie “Tambo” Landreth (Whit) of Pendleton, South Carolina and Nickie (Beannie) McAbee of Spartanburg; two sisters, Rachel Wilson of Mill Spring and Libby McAbee of Albemarle, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, LeAnne Goss (Corey) of Greenville, North Carolina, Jennifer McAbee (Jaden) of Hawaii, Dalton Landreth of Townville, South Carolina, Chase Landreth (Marissa) of Pendleton, South Carolina, Gavin Brady, U.S. Navy, (Hannah) of Florida, Charlie Brady of Covington, Kentucky, Jaylan Brady of Spartanburg, Ava Brady of Spartanburg and Savannah Brady of Spartanburg; three great-grandchildren, Koen Landreth, Nova Landreth and Gracyn Landreth. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday afternoon, December 30, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the McFarland Funeral Chapel.

A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel with Reverend Brian Wilson and Reverend Lewis Jackson officiating.

Burial will follow in Mill Spring First Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
