The proclamation, presented by Mayor J. Alan Peoples, highlighted Booker’s impressive career and community involvement. A native of Polk County and Tryon, Booker has been an active member of the Board of Commissioners, advocating for the town’s needs and improvements.

In June 2017, she became the first woman of color elected to the Tryon Board. During her tenure as Mayor Pro Tempore from 2019 to 2024, she has set a precedent for future leaders in the community.

Booker, a licensed Realtor in North Carolina, is deeply involved in the community, serving on the Eastside Citizens Advisory Committee and previously on the Board of Directors of the Tryon History Museum. She is also a member of St. Luke Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

In addition to her local commitments, Booker has made significant impacts in broadcasting, working for WGGS-TV in Greenville, SC, where she serves across multiple functions, and as a morning radio personality for WNCW 88.7 FM public radio.

Her leadership extends beyond local services; in 2022 she ran for the U.S. Senate in the Democratic Primary and in 2024, she made history as the first woman of color to seek the governor’s seat in North Carolina during the Democratic Primary, encouraging more women to pursue elected office.

In the proclamation, Mayor Peoples emphasized the Town of Tryon’s gratitude for Booker’s service, wishing her the best in her future endeavors. “We honor and thank Chrelle Booker for her considerable service to the Town of Tryon and its people.”
