They came, they jumped, threw and ran, they helped.
Athletes and fans who attended Saturday’s 15th Annual Reindeer Games once again helped stock the shelves at Outreach, the Polk County organization that helps provide assistance to any local resident in need.
The day’s total included 1,059 food items and $260 in donations, all of which immediately headed to Outreach to help during the holiday season.
The day also included a pretty good track and field meet, with athletes from 15 schools taking part in the competition on Miller Field in G.M. Tennant Stadium. Franklin’s girls and T.C. Roberson’s boys teams walked away with top honors in the holiday-themed event, which saw its fair share of athletes and coaches dressed in Christmas gear.
Polk County’s girls team placed fourth in the 15-team field, with the Wolverine boys taking fifth in the 11-team group.
Polk’s boys won one event, the 4×400-meter relay that ended the competition, while the Wolverine girls saw Karsyn Huskey dominate the 1000-meter field, winning the race in 3:10.49, some seven seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
Polk County’s indoor track and field teams are next slated to be back in action on January 11, hosting the Polar Bear 2 meet.
