LANDRUM—The Landrum Cardinals boys’ basketball team won a pair of non-region challenges this past week, beginning with an impressive performance against the Spartanburg Day Griffins. Last Wednesday evening, the Cardinals overwhelmed their opponents with a score of 78-37.
Following this decisive victory, the Cardinals took on their rivals, the Blue Ridge Fighting Tigers, who came into the game with a struggling 1-6 record. In another display of skill and teamwork, Landrum bested Blue Ridge with a final score of 83-70, improving their record to an impressive 5-0.
Looking ahead, the Cardinals (5-0) will face the Broome Centurions on Monday evening. Broome enters the matchup with a 2-6 record, giving Landrum another chance to extend its winning streak.
In girls’ basketball action, the Landrum Cardinals Varsity Girls team also found success, defeating the visiting Spartanburg Day Lady Griffins 48-18, bringing their season record to 4-3. However, they faced a setback against the Blue Ridge Lady Fighting Tigers on Friday, December 13, falling 45-27. This loss marked the second defeat to the Tigers this season, with Landrum having previously lost a home matchup 45-32.
With a record of 4-4, the Cardinal girls are eager to bounce back as they prepare to take on Broome, who comes into their game with a 5-3 record.
The upcoming games are scheduled for Monday night at Landrum, with the girls set to tip off against Broome at 6:00 p.m., followed by the boys’ matchup at 7:30 p.m. at home.
