Mill Spring—Bobby Franklin McAbee, 75, of Mill Spring, went home to be with the Lord Friday morning, November 29, 2024, at his home following a brief illness.
A native of Polk County, Bobby was the son of the late Hicks McAbee and Alcie O’Sullivan McAbee. Bobby was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Army. Following service to his country, Bobby went on to work for the North Carolina Department of Transportation in Polk County and retired after 36 years of service.
Bobby was an avid hunter and fisherman. The love of his life was his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by five brothers: Harvey McAbee, Richard McAbee, Dennis McAbee, Craig McAbee, and Edward McAbee; and one sister, Mary Ellen Shehan.
Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Judy Davis McAbee; one son, Bryan McAbee (Rebecca) of Mill Spring; two daughters, Shelley Newman (Travis) of Campobello and Robin McAbee of Green Hill; seven grandchildren, Aaron McAbee (April), Tyler Newman, Bryson Newman, Owen Newman, Jesse Raines, Starla Raines and Kristen Carroll (Tyler); eight great-grandchildren, Waylon McAbee, Ripp McAbee, Madison Braun, Savannah Braun, Joseph Carroll, Olivia Carroll, Macy Carroll and Glenn Raines; one brother, Marion “Bud” McAbee; two sisters, Rachel Wilson and Elizabeth Bailey. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Faith Baptist Church in Mill Spring, with Reverend Paul White, Jr. and Reverend Keith Russell officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the church.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Military honors will be conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
