Martinez named to All-State team; Ballentine, Meyer, Purtill, Alley earn region honors

Polk County senior Nate Martinez has been named to the 1A All-State boys soccer squad by the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association.
Martinez was also one of four Wolverines named to the 1A All-Region 11 squad, joined by Riley Ballentine, Cooper Meyer and James Purtill.
Polk County coach George Alley was also honored as the 1A Region 11 Coach of the Year.
A midfielder, Martinez helped lead Polk County to a 15-5-3 record and the third round of the state 1A playoffs. He recorded nine goals and a team-leading 12 assists.
