Frances “Fran” Kunze Schlabach, 76, passed away on October 27, 2024. She was a resident of Tryon, NC for 27 years. Fran was raised in Newport News, VA. She graduated from Warwick High School, and attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, VA, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Frances Kunze, and sister Merlynn K. Watson. Fran is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Ross Schlabach of Tryon, NC; her daughter Tracy Schlabach of Raleigh, NC; her son David Schlabach (Laura) and two grandchildren Henry and Porter of Raleigh, NC; her brother William B. Kunze (Sherri) of Columbia, SC; and seven nieces and nephews.
Fran and Ross were married on July 4th, 1970 in Hampton, VA. After raising their family in Greenville, SC, and working as a dental hygienist, Fran and Ross retired to Tryon, NC, where they were avid pet lovers and enjoyed traveling. Together they made a haven to support their hobbies, which for Fran included horses, sketching, and painting. Fran’s love of horses began early in life and continued to be a source of joy that she shared with her daughter Tracy. Fran treasured spending time with her two grandsons.
After a brave battle with cancer, Fran passed away peacefully with family by her side.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Anita Williamson at the Reunion Grove Farm Equine Sanctuary located at 419 S. Greenway Rd. Tryon, NC 28782.
