No injuries reported, quick response prevents spread
TRYON—One of the cabins at the Pine Crest Inn in Tryon is completely lost after a structural fire on Wednesday night.
Units responding from the Tryon Fire Department were on the scene within minutes of the call coming in around 8:50 p.m. Personnel immediately entered to begin extinguishing the fire, located at 220 Pine Crest Lane.
Captain Jackson Tipton and Firefighter Hayden Coley from TFD conducted the initial knockdown quickly, and TFD Chief Josh Walton was the incident commander. Officials said that ensuring the fire was completely out throughout the structure took an hour and a half.
“As seen recently in the devastating effects from Helene, this fire illustrates how our area pulls together to respond quickly and efficiently to all emergencies,” said Steven W. Siler, Public Information Officer for Tryon Fire Department. “We would like to thank every one of the responders and departments who wasted no time in helping to extinguish this fire with such speed.”
Gowensville Fire Department, Columbus Fire Department, and Saluda Fire Department also provided personnel and apparatus, with Polk County EMS on standby for medical assistance and rehab.
The cause is still under investigation, although electrical failure is suspected. No injuries were reported.
