COLUMBUS—Naturalist, writer, and historian Dennis Chastain will present “Historical Findings of Cherokee Living in the Carolinas” on Thursday, November 14, at the Columbus Library. The program will take place at 4 p.m.
Though not a part of the Cherokee community, Chastain will share knowledge from his 30 years of research.
The Cherokee people have lived in this area for thousands of years and are the aboriginal inhabitants and keepers of a vast geographic landscape covering parts of eight southeastern states. Attendees will learn about many aspects of the Cherokees’ history and culture, including how they constructed their houses and other structures and the foods they ate. The importance of corn and how it changed the lifestyles of all southeastern Native Americans will also be discussed.
Polk County Public Libraries has two libraries, Columbus Library and Saluda Library. Both have books, DVDs, music, audiobooks, and digital books available for checkout, as well as public computers and wireless internet access. PCPL also offers regularly scheduled programs for all ages. To learn more, visit polklibrary.org.
