POLK COUNTY—On Sunday, October 27, local police were notified of a potential threat to student safety at Polk County Schools, which was later determined to lack credibility.
Superintendent Aaron Greene said the potential threat stemmed from a social media post.
In an email to student’s families, school officials said that after a thorough investigation, authorities confirmed there was no credible threat to the school community. They traced the information about a potential threat back to a single individual who could not provide a clear source for the claim.
“We sincerely thank Polk County law enforcement and the SRO division for their swift response and diligent efforts,” the email said. “We also appreciate the community members who promptly relayed information to law enforcement and school officials, ensuring the safety of our students.”
Polk County Schools also encouraged parents and guardians to speak with their children about the importance of reporting any safety concerns immediately.
“It’s also critical to understand that any comments, whether made in jest or passing, regarding threats to the school represent a serious concern and cause unnecessary disruption to the entire school community,” the email states.
Greene reiterated Monday morning that safety at all district schools is always a primary focus.
“Polk County Schools always encourages the community to report any threats made on our students or faculty right away,” said Greene. “Safety at our schools is of the utmost importance.”
