A message from Polk County Schools Superintendent Aaron Greene shared an update on recovery efforts and the push to reopen Polk County Schools.
“I want to begin by expressing our sincere hope that this message finds you safe and well,” said Greene, “For those who have endured significant impacts from the storm, please know our thoughts are with you and we stand ready to support you in any way we can.
“Over the past week, we have been proud to stand alongside our communities in support of recovery efforts. It has been heartwarming to witness so many offering assistance and uplifting those in need. As power is being restored and people begin to resume their daily lives, we believe the best way to help our students and families now is by returning to school. Barring any unforeseen circumstances we plan to have staff return to school on Monday and Tuesday of next week for designated workdays to prepare for students to return on Wednesday, October 9.”
Greene said the school system will send out another message early next week confirming these details.
“Due to the ongoing communication challenges we’re facing in Polk County, we ask for your help in spreading the word to those who may not be receiving these messages. We also understand that some students and families may not yet be able to return to school, and we will work closely with them as we go forward.
“Thank you for your continued patience, resilience, and support as we work together to recover and reopen. We’re grateful to be part of such a strong and caring community, and we look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to school. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.”
