Robert I. Lesowitz passed away on September 24, 2024, at the age of 85 in Columbus, NC. Born on August 31, 1939, Robert dedicated much of his life to the field of psychiatry and education, positively impacting both his patients and his community.

Robert served in the Army and was stationed in Landstuhl, Germany, before moving to Louisville, OH in 1972.

Robert began his distinguished career in psychiatry in 1972, practicing both adult and child psychiatry in Canton, Ohio, until his move to Tryon, NC in 1999. Throughout his career, he also served as a clinical professor at the Northeast Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine (NEOUCOM) in Rootstown, Ohio, where he was honored with the Clinical Professor of Psychiatry Award in 1988. His professional affiliations included being a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, reflecting his commitment and contributions to his field.

Beyond his professional life, Robert was known for his love of the outdoors and horseback riding, a passion he pursued for over 40 years. His empathetic nature was profoundly demonstrated when he gifted his last horse and saddle to a disabled girl, a gesture she cherished.

Robert is survived by his brother, Sidney Lesowitz, and daughters, Toni Lesowitz and Abby Eibel.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris “Moe” Lesowitz and Sarah May “Sally” Shapiro, and his son-in-law, Ronald Eibel.

A private gathering for the immediate family will take place in Spring 2025 to honor Robert’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Robert.
