Polk County Update: Information about supply distribution and how to make donations

Officials with the City of Tryon and Polk County released the following update to residents on Tuesday, Oct. 1:

Important Numbers
  • For emergency needs – 911
  • Welfare Checks / Non-Emergency – 828-722-5025 or 828-722-5026
  • Informational Hotline – 828-722-5086

Essential Needs Distribution:

Starting tomorrow (Oct. 2), the following drive-through locations will be open to distribute essential supplies, including water and basic food needs. Donations are on a first-come, first-serve basis, and availability depends on the bulk donations received by the county.

Hours of operation starting Oct. 2 will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at the following locations:
  • Mill Spring / Green Creek Community 
    Tryon Equestrian
    25 International Blvd, Mill Spring, NC
  • Columbus Community
    Columbus Town Hall
    95 Walker St, Columbus, NC
  • Saluda Community
    Saluda Elementary Bus Parking Lot
    214 E Main St, Saluda, NC
  • Tryon Community
    Tryon Town Hall
    301 N Trade St, Tryon, NC
  • Sunny View
    86 Sunny View School Rd.

How to make donations

  • Small Donations: Individual and Small Quantities will be accepted from Tuesday, October 1st, through Thursday, October 3rd, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Thermal Belt Outreach, 134 White Drive, Columbus, NC.
  • Large Bulk Donations:  Must be coordinated through NCVOAD.org or a County/Municipal Official who will contact the County EOC for vetting.

Landfill

  • Open Monday – Friday 8 am to  4:30 pm/ Saturday 8 am – 4:30 pm
  • Residential Trash – $10.00 Service Fee Waived October 1st through October 8th
