Polk County Schools officials said Sunday it’s too early to set any kind of reopening timeline for schools in the district.
In an email update sent Sunday, Polk County Schools officials said most of its school facilities only sustained minimal damage, but a few will require more time to repair.
But the primary factor in reopening, officials said, is the extensive damage throughout the county and the uncertainty around when electrical power may be restored.
“We do not yet have a timeline for reopening,” officials said. “We will remain in communication with updates and notify everyone as soon as we have a better sense of when schools can reopen safely.”
“Our thoughts are with all those affected by the storm, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community remain our top priority.”
“We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we navigate these challenging times. Together, we will recover and ensure that our students can return to safe learning environments as soon as possible.”
