TRYON—Saluda artist and Upstairs Artspace alum Dale McEntire will exhibit his work at Upstairs Artspace in the gallery’s last show of the year, Reflections Along the Path. The gallery will host an opening reception with an ‘artist walk and talk’ at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 6. The public is invited to attend this free event.
Known for his vibrantly colorful abstract landscapes in oil and pastels, as well as sculptures of stone, steel, cast glass, and wood, Dale says that the natural world and its spiritual essence inspire his work.
“The natural world is full of vibration, color, motion, texture, space and form,” he says. “When I work on location or take a walk in nature, I make an effort to experience its beauty and wonder. I try to represent this energy with symbolism and color.”
He says he identifies with a movement of painters and sculptors known as the “Nature Symbolists,” which has inspired him to become more abstract in his interpretation of nature and its energy.
Dale studied at Mercer University, Brevard College, and Penland School of Craft, as well as privately in the US and Europe. A WNC native, Dale is a member of Tryon Painters and Sculptors and Tri-State Sculptors. He has participated in public art events and outdoor sculpture shows and has exhibited over ten times at Upstairs Artspace over the years.
Reflections Along the Path will run through December 20. The gallery’s hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 12 to 5 p.m., and until 7 p.m. during Fourth Friday events.
