Pea Ridge Partnership to launch inaugural tour of historical African American sites in Polk County

POLK COUNTY—Pea Ridge Partnership recently announced the launch of its first-ever tour dedicated to exploring significant historical African American sites throughout Polk County. This groundbreaking hour-long tour will take place on September 26 at 1 p.m. and will be hosted by Pea Ridge Partnership founder Tanisha Twitty Akinloye, who was born and raised on Pea Ridge Road, along with her uncle Jerry Twitty, a respected historian and advisory board member.

This unique tour will provide participants with an enriching opportunity to visit key landmarks that celebrate the enduring contributions of African Americans to the history and culture of Polk County. 

“We are excited to share these important stories and sites with our community,” said Akinloye. “This tour is a chance for everyone to connect with our rich heritage and learn more about the impactful role of African Americans in our area.”

The tour will begin and conclude at the Pea Ridge Partnership location at 31 Amos Miller Lane, Rutherfordton, NC, situated on Pea Ridge Road. On-site parking is available, with additional parking options at Zion Grove Church, located directly across the street.
