TRYON—Due to a recent rabies case where animal control officers discovered the remains of a rabid skunk on Hogback Mountain Rd. in Tryon, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a rabies clinic for pets at the Harmon Field open-air gym.

According to NC General Statute 130A-185, all dogs, cats, and ferrets must be vaccinated against rabies, and failure to do so can result in a citation. Additionally, a citation can occur for failure to provide a vaccination tag and/or certification.

Polk County Animal Control Officer Patti Lovelace encourages pet owners to attend the clinic to keep humans and pets safe from the dangerous disease.

“Rabies in animals is preventable through routine vaccination efforts,” states Lovelace.

Several services will be available at the rabies clinic, which include rabies vaccinations for $10 per pet, and DA2PP vaccinations for dogs or FVRCP vaccinations for cats for $20 per pet.

Dogs must be on a harness or a slip leash while attending the clinic, and cats must be in crates due to safety concerns.

The rabies clinic is set to take place on Saturday, September 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Harmon Field’s open-air gym is located at 117 Harmon Field Rd. in Tryon.
