Huskey wins MF7 meet; Polk boys second in team chase

Karsyn Huskey continued her strong early-season running and Polk County’s boys team posted a runner-up finish Tuesday in the Mountain Foothills 7 Pre-Conference Meet in Brevard.

Huskey bested the field of MF7 schools with a time of 20:15.22, almost a minute ahead of Patton’s Elise Sawdy. The Wolverines also got a solid effort from freshman Emma Blomeley, who placed 23rd with a time of 27:02.50.

Polk’s girls finished fourth overall, with Carmen Diez-Grande (27th, 28:08.97), Khloe Kitchen (33rd, 29:07.94) and Emily-Charlie Keller (34th, 29:17.06) rounded out the scoring runners. Also competing was Kendra Kitchen (36th, 30:02.06).

Brevard won the team title, placing five runners in the top 10, with Hendersonville and Chase in second and third. The Trojans were just a point ahead of the Wolverines.

Brevard also won the boys race on its home course, with Avan Hinkle leading a 1-2-3-4 sweep for the Blue Devils. Polk County’s Davis Young prevented a top-five Brevard sweep with his fifth-place effort in a time of 18:14.41.

Liam Jackson finished 11th in 19:24.15, with Dean Holland in 22nd in 21:26.47. Rounding out the scoring was Ethan Jenne (27t, 22:28.97) and Sam Rhein (30th, 22:46.38).

Also running for Polk were Austin Shipman (45th, 24:34.66) and Max Butterfield (61st, 32:31.31).
