Second-set streak helps carry Wolverines to road sweep

A 16-0 run in the second set highlighted Polk County’s 3-0 victory Tuesday at R-S Central in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference volleyball action in Rutherfordton.

The Wolverines upped their record to 6-1 overall, 3-0 in conference play with a 25-16, 25-8, 25-21 victory. The Hilltoppers dropped to 6-6, 1-2.

After winning the first set, Polk County opened the second by scoring the first 16 points. The Hilltoppers snapped the run with a kill, but Polk extended the lead to 20-1 before going on to claim the set.

The third set proved much closer, with the Wolverines inching ahead late to wrap up the match.

Mia Bradley had 10 kills and eight digs, with Sophia Overholt recording seven kills and 15 digs. Morgan Yoder added four kills, five aces and 10 digs.

Hayden Blackwell recorded 15 digs, with Charley Dusenbury finishing with 19 kills and 15 digs. Kylie Lewis had seven digs.

Polk County remains on the road on Wednesday, traveling to West Henderson for a non-conference clash.
