MILL SPRING—The 2024 Earl Scruggs Music Festival began Friday, marking the start of a weekend dedicated to bluegrass music. The annual event, held in Mill Spring, features two stages of world-class bluegrass, Americana, and old-time music. In addition to the performances, the festival offers workshops, a kids’ zone, a variety of dining options, and dozens of vendors.

The festival opened with a presentation from Rare Bird Farm & Blue Ridge Music Trails on the Foggy Mountain Stage. The Warren Wilson College Band, Carly Arrowood, and The Wild Flower followed with performances.

On the Flint Hill Stage, the music began with The Grascals, followed by Darrell Scott’s String Band and Pony Bradshaw.
