The Sphero Robotics AIG Summer Seminar Camp, offered by Polk County Schools in collaboration with the Polk County Community Foundation, concluded on a high note, leaving young participants excited about technology and programming.
The camp, led by instructor Jonathan Greene, introduced students to fundamental computer programming skills using Sphero robots, which are known for their advanced capabilities and interactive features. Throughout the camp, students engaged in hands-on activities that combined math and programming, allowing them to control the robots through obstacle courses they designed themselves.
The campers also explored creative storytelling by integrating the robots into their narratives, using the spherical devices to bring their stories to life. The final day of the camp added an extra layer of fun when a small swimming pool was set up, giving the robots a chance to “swim,” much to the delight of the students.
The camp’s success highlights the growing interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education in the community and the effectiveness of engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
