TRYON—Tryon Arts & Crafts School hosted an enchanting evening on Friday, August 23, with a public opening reception for the exhibit Bayard Wootten: Light and Air: Photography from Tryon, the Western Carolinas, and Beyond, alongside entries from local artists and collectors.
Over 100 guests attended, enjoying Wootten’s large-format photographs, which vividly capture everyday life in our region during the 1930s.
Noteworthy inclusions in the exhibit are images of Pearson Falls, Tryon Toymakers, basket weavers, Pine Crest Inn, the Mills-Screven Home, intimate family portraits, and laborers—scenes Wootten documented during her extensive travels across North Carolina.
These works, on loan from the North Carolina Collection at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Wilson Library, will be on display at TACS through October 18.
