Carol Jean Vosburgh (Heise), 78, passed away on July 10, 2024, in Landrum, South Carolina. Born on November 15, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Carol Jean grew up to touch the lives of many with her radiant presence and loving nature. Carol Jean graduated from Northeast High School in St. Petersburg, Florida and later earned her Bachelor’s degree from Eckerd College.

Carol Jean’s professional life was dedicated to caring for others as a Registered Nurse and Parish Nurse. Her career spanned various hospitals, culminating in her last full-time role at Bellair Surgery Center.

She was a devout Christian and was a very active member in both Pasadena Community Church in Florida and Tryon Congregational Church in North Carolina. She enjoyed leading Bible study groups in both locations. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions as she continuously grew as a disciple of God.

An athlete by passion, Carol Jean was an accomplished runner, swimmer, and cyclist and achieved recognition at local, state, and national levels. She competed in numerous marathons, often placing top in her age group. She qualified for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii and competed several times in the National Senior Games, recently medaling in the cycling 5k and 10k time trials and the triathlon. Carol Jean was a true inspiration to many, as her athletic accomplishments continued up until the present.

Carol Jean lived life to its fullest participating in activities such as bicycling from San Francisco, California to Kittery, Maine in 52 days with her husband, Kip. They also recently completed one of their bucket list items of cruising around the world to 29 countries and 6 continents with plans to do another.

Carol Jean is survived by her loving husband, Kip Vosburgh; her brother, Dr. Forrest Heise; her sister, Virginia Sechrest and brother-in-law Wayne Sechrest; her children, David Salmeri, Suzanne Ford, Cristina Quinn (Brian), Leah Murray (Derek), Erin Owoc (Victor), and Meredith Vosburgh. She was a cherished grandmother to 14 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice Gable and Robert Heise.

Services to honor and celebrate her life are scheduled for September 14th at Tryon Congregational Church at 2:00 PM and October 12th at Pasadena Community Church in Florida at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Carol Jean’s memory to the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer’s Association, supporting causes that were close to her heart.

Carol Jean was a phenomenal woman whose legacy of love and spirit will continue to inspire.
