Stott’s Ford to host event this September

TRYON—The second annual “Cars for Cancer” car show is set to take place on Sunday, September 22, at Stott’s Ford in downtown Tryon. This year, all funds raised at the event will go to Brandon Burnett, who lost his mother, Doris, to stage 3 lung cancer on August 14.

Doris Burnett, a lifelong Polk County native, impacted generations while working in the Rutherford County School system up until her retirement. Raised in the Mill Spring area, Doris attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she made many lifelong friends. She absolutely loved nature, feeding a specific deer that would visit her on a regular basis.

Her biggest joy in life was her son Brandon, who was left with the unfortunate expenses of the tragic illness. The car show is aimed to help Brandon with medical bills and other expenses needed to assist the family.

“I’m speechless,” said Brandon. “I can not put into words how much this means to me and my family, to have an event to honor my mother really means a lot.”

The car show was created by Ashley Brewington and her fiance, Nick Kniffin, in 2023 to help raise funds for her father, Lanndon Brewington, as he battled stage 4 head and neck cancer. The car show proved to be a successful event and aided in the financial assistance of her father’s treatments. Brewington promised to bring back the event each year to help others in the community affected by cancer.

“Doris was a wonderful woman and meant so much to many people all over the community,” said Ashley. “The car show will be in her honor, with the proceeds going toward her lingering cancer treatment bills.”

A variety of cars, trucks and motorcycles will roar through downtown Tryon for a good cause during the popular car show in its second year. Numerous vendors will be onsite and raffles will be available. Special trophies handmade by Kenneth Stott, owner of Larry Stott’s Garage, will be awarded to the winners of the car show.

The cost to participate in the car show will be $20 per car, and there is no charge to attend. Stott’s Ford is located at 222 N. Trade St. in Tryon.
