Polk County couldn’t have wished for a better start Tuesday.
The Wolverines scored the first 16 points of their match with Crest, setting the tone for a 25-8, 25-11, 25-18 sweep of the visiting Chargers in a non-conference meeting.
Polk improved to 3-0 with the win ahead of Wednesday’s home match with West Henderson. The Falcons are also 3-0, including a 3-1 win last week at Brevard.
Morgan Yoder’s serving helped power the Wolverines in their 16-0 run, notching most of her five aces for the match in that surge.
The Chargers (0-8) began to find their footing a bit in the second set, then stayed close to Polk for much of the third set behind 6-1 middle blocker Kensley Haneline, a USC Upstate commit. Crest stayed within a point of the Wolverines until a late Polk surge sealed the match.
Polk’s own USC Upstate commit, Sophia Overholt, had team highs of nine kills and 19 digs in the win. Mia Bradley added eight kills and 12 digs, and Yoder and Kylie Lewis added seven kills each. Lewis also had eight digs.
Hayden Blackwell had nine digs, while Charley Dusenbury had 30 assists.
