SALUDA—The 2024 annual Women’s Green River Takeover will occur on Saturday, August 24. The Great Falls Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization, organizes the free event committed to advancing whitewater competition and encouraging an active outdoor lifestyle.
Last year’s event saw approximately 110 women participating in the whitewater paddling event, which raised money to support the memorial funds honoring Shannon Christy, Maria Noakes, and Sarah Ruhlen. This free gathering provided an opportunity for women of all ages, spanning from under 10 to over 70, to connect and paddle together on three different sections of the Green River, ranging from class II to class V.
The Women’s Green River Takeover initially sought to increase the visibility of the female paddling community and address the traditionally male-dominated nature of whitewater sports. Over the years, it has grown into a significant gathering involving camping, boating, and camaraderie, with supportive male volunteers also participating.
After the group paddle, participants return to the Green River Ranch for social time and a fundraising raffle featuring prizes such as gear, art, and instruction.
The 2023 event raised $9,000, and it was also featured in Kayak Session Magazine.
Potential participants and those interested in supporting this meaningful cause can find more information about the event on the official website at greatfallsfoundation.org/green-river-ladies-takeover.
