Receives Community Service Award from Daughters of the American Revolution

 

COLUMBUS—At the recent monthly meeting of the Polk County Historical Association, the organization was recognized by the Abraham Kuykendall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Excellence in Community Service Award was presented because of PCHA’s involvement in community activities aimed at the preservation of the area’s history, beginning with the American Revolution. The presentation was made by Penny Summey, Chapter Regent of the Kuykendall DAR Chapter.

“The museum is a treasure trove of historical pictures and artifacts,” Summey said. “The educational programs presented by the association promote local history and historical research as well as honor veterans. Your genealogy library offers resources to guide the exploration of family and area histories.”

In order to receive this recognition, the DAR must receive two recommendations. 

Polk County Commissioner Chairman Myron Yoder said the association’s dedication to collecting and safeguarding local artifacts and archives helps educate the public about the area’s significant historical events, including the contributions of early American patriots. 

“PCHA’s work fosters community pride and ensures our local heritage remains accessible for future generations,” said Yoder.

Polk County Community Foundation President and CEO Sara Bell added that PCCF is proud to have supported the Polk County Historical Association’s historic preservation and educational efforts since 1998. 

“We have been honored to support PCHA with grants to enhance its museum and collections, publish books, and conduct oral history projects to record community stories and history before it is lost forever,” Bell said.

Chapter Regent Summey presented the Polk County Historical Association with a special recognition certificate and a $500 donation.
