Tryon Little Theater announces upcoming shows and auditions

TRYON—Tryon Little Theater has announced that they will be holding auditions for three separate upcoming shows, with the earliest phase of auditions starting next month. 

On Saturday, September 7, at 3 p.m.,  the first round of auditions for the holiday-themed “Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley” will take place at the Sunnydale event venue in Tryon. This 2016 play written by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon centers around Mary Bennet, the middle sister in Jane Austen’s novel “Pride and Prejudice,” two years after the events of the critically-acclaimed story that is commonly known worldwide. 

Directed by Joel Perkin, the play follows up on beloved and familiar characters while a story of holiday romance unfolds. A second round of auditions will take place at Sunnydale on Monday, September 9, at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, October 6, at 3 p.m., the first round of auditions for the musical “Gypsy” will take place at Tryon Little Theater. First introduced on Broadway in 1959, the musical follows Rose, a mother of two daughters, who dreams of raising her children to perform on stage, despite facing obstacles and hardships of show business life. The musical is loosely based on the real lives of  burlesque entertainer Gypsy Rose Lee, actress June Havoc and their talent manager mother, Rose Hovick. 

With music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and inclusions from the book by Arthur Laurents, this musical story of motherhood and show business demonstrates the lives of three early American entertainment pioneers. A second round of auditions will take place at Tryon Little Theater on Monday, October 7, at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, February 23, at 3 p.m. the first round of auditions for the comedy “Four Old Broads” will take place at Tryon Little Theater. This  90s comedy written by Leslie Kimbell focuses on four sassy senior ladies residing at Magnolia Place Assisted Living. Growing bored of the daily activities of Magnolia Place, the group of friends decide they want to take a Caribbean cruise without the approval of their rude and pushy nurse. Directed by Leslie Killion, a hilarious mystery unfolds as the seniors try to outsmart their mean and nasty caregiver. A second round of auditions will take place at Tryon Little Theater on Monday, February 24, at 7 p.m.

Tryon Little Theater is located at 516 South Trade St., and Sunnydale is located at 334 South Trade St. in Tryon.
