TRYON—On Tuesday August 6, Foothills Equestrian Nature Center announced that they will be sheltering equines evacuating due to Hurricane Debby.

Hurricane Debby made landfall in Florida on Monday as a Category 1 hurricane, and is expected to impact the southeastern coast with life-threatening flooding and storm surges. As the hurricane moves north, rainfall totals of ten to twenty inches will be possible in some parts of the Carolinas this week.

FENCE will be sheltering equines at no cost but owners must provide all the supplies needed during the stay, including any medical needs and shavings for the stall.

“FENCE takes pride in being able to open our facility to our extended community seeking refuge from natural disasters,” said FENCE Executive Director Tracie Hanson on Wednesday.

FENCE has sheltered equines in the past due to severe weather and natural disasters, including after Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and Hurricane Florence in 2018.

FENCE is located at 3381 Hunting Country Rd. in Tryon.
