Saluda Historic Depot’s Train Tales presentation to feature Marion mayor

SALUDA—The monthly Train Tales presentation at the Saluda Historic Depot will be held on Friday, August 16, and will feature Steve Little, the mayor of Marion, North Carolina

Little is known for his deep involvement in the history of railroad construction in the area. He has performed a one-man show titled “Life of a Railroad Convict,” which depicts the harsh conditions faced by convict laborers during the construction of the Old Fort Loops. 

Additionally, he has authored several books on the subject, including Tunnels, Nitro, and Convicts, which details the construction of the Western North Carolina Railroad from 1875 to 1879.

His presentation will focus on “Convicts Who Built the Railroad.”  

Saluda Historic Depot is located at 32 W. Main Street. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the program will begin at 7. Admission is free.
