LANDRUM—The community is invited to join Conserving Carolina and the Landrum Library for a free lecture entitled “Water Quality in Streams and Rivers of Upstate South Carolina,” presented by Dr. Greg Lewis, a professor of biology at Furman University.

The program will be held on Tuesday, August 6, at 6 p.m. at the Landrum Library.

The Piedmont and Blue Ridge provinces of South Carolina are experiencing some of the fastest urban growth in the country. Therefore, it’s important to understand how the transformation of rural lands to urban and suburban lands affects water quality and other conditions in streams and rivers, which are often used as public water supplies, receivers of treated wastewater, and recreational opportunities.

Attendees will learn about the summary of over 20 years of research by faculty and students at Furman University and how both natural variations in the landscape and human activity influence water quality in streams and rivers in this region.

This lecture is part of Conserving Carolina’s monthly Speaker Series at the Landrum Library, and it is made possible thanks to the Landrum Library. The next program at the Landrum Library will be held on Thursday, September 19, when Brad Nelson will present on “Butterflies in Your Backyard.”

Landrum Library is located at 111 East Asbury Drive. For more information, contact Pam Torlina at pam@conservingcarolina.org or contact the library at 864-457-2218.
