COLUMBUS—The Polk County YMCA has announced its planned local facility will be named for two well-known community benefactors.

The YMCA building will be named the Tennant YMCA of Polk County in honor of Geoff and Alice Tennant, with the Turner-Tennant Foundation providing a leadership-level gift toward the construction of the facility in Columbus.

YMCA officials said they hope to break ground in 2025 and have targeted an open date sometime in 2027.

Officials also announced that they have secured more than $3 million in pledges and donations toward the new facility.

“We are excited to see the growing number of investments in this important project, and we aren’t finished yet,” said Michael Baughman, YMCA Development Committee Chair. “Now is the time to invite friends, neighbors and colleagues to pledge their support.”

The YMCA is continuing to look for donors. Anyone interested in contributing can do so by visiting www.spartanburgymca.org/donate/now/18749308/20041.
