Filing deadline passes for local office: Here’s who’s running for mayor, town councils

POLK COUNTY— The deadline for candidates to file for local office was noon on July 19, with several incumbents filing for re-election.

In the Town of Tryon, Tryon Mayor J. Alan Peoples has filed for re-election, with Mayor Pro Tempore Chrelle Booker also filing to run for mayor, as well as resident Doug Arbogast. 

Tryon councilman Crys Armbrust will run for re-election as well, with Steve Nelon, Tracie Greenway Morris, Ray Fulk, Skip Crowe, and Ian Griggs running for two spots on the Tryon Board of Commissioners. Julie Lambakis, Nathan Shields, and Neil Rogers are contending for an unexpired seat made open due to Bill Ingham’s passing.

In the Town of Columbus, current Mayor Patrick McCool is the only candidate for the mayoral office. Incumbents Mark Phillips, Richard Hall, and Brent Jackson, along with candidate Elaine Greenwood, will contend for the three seats on the ballot for town council.

In the City of Saluda, the commissioner race will include incumbent Melanie Talbot along with Elecia Pillsbury and Kevin D. Burnett.

The voter registration deadline for the upcoming 2024 general election is October 11 for online and mail-in registrations and November 2 for in-person registration. 

The 2024 general election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, with polling places open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
