TRYON—Tryon writer Susan McNabb is among fourteen authors sharing their “author origin stories” in the anthology Journeys to Authorship, now available at The Book Shelf at 17 S. Trade St. in Tryon.

The contributing authors met in a Phoenix, Arizona, writers’ group, publish in different genres, and have each had a unique path to authorship.

In McNabb’s story, “Flirting with the Flames of Fame,” she finds her debut novel’s publisher not because of her past Hollywood connections, but in spite of them. Tryon helped celebrate her first book launch in 2014 at the Upstairs Artspace’s monthly Literary Open Stage event, where she read her opening chapter and shared a sheet cake adorned with her book cover art.

Now, McNabb has published nine books (some as Suki McMinn) and contributed to ten anthologies. She’s a founding member of Tryon Writers, an inclusive group of area writers with over 700 followers on Facebook. All are invited to join and follow local literary news and events by “liking” the Facebook page.

Tryon Daily Bulletin readers know McNabb for her “Tryon Diary” column, which began in 2013. She lives in both Phoenix and Tryon and makes no secret about her preference for Tryon.
