Retired Colonel Daniel (Dan) H. Edwards passed away in the company of his wife Carolyn at their home in San Antonio on April 9, 2024, at the age of 82. Born and raised in Tryon, NC, he was the son of the late John and Alice Edwards. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn, a sister Emily of Greenville, SC as well as cousins, nieces and special friends. After graduating from Tryon High School, Dan attended the University North Carolina earning a BA in Political Science. Shortly after graduation, he was commissioned a Lieutenant of Infantry from Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia. The majority of his 26 years of service was assigned to U. S. Army Special Forces (Green Berets). He was a graduate of the Defense Language Institute (German), Air Command and Staff College and the Army War College. Upon retirement, he earned a Masters of Arts in Communication from the University Incarnate Word. A voracious reader with an endless curiosity and great intellect, he enjoyed a good conversation with friends at the Fort Sam Houston Fitness Center, a dinner table with food he had prepared or anyone he met during his day. His love of music led him to become a self- taught guitar player playing each afternoon for pleasure. He is and will be deeply missed. Internment was held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio,
Texas.
