Columbus, NC–Tara Alice Atkins, born December 17, 1971, in Columbus, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Tara leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that touched the lives of many. She is survived by her mother, Jane Atkins; father, Calvin Atkins, and step-mother, Cindy Page- Atkins. Tara is also survived by her brother, Jamie Atkins (Robin) of Martinez, GA, and her sister, Kristy Tipton (Rodney) of Sunny View. Also left to cherish her memory is her nephew, Jackson Tipton and his wife Makinzie, her nieces, Delaney Tipton, Madelynn Atkins, Caitlynn Atkins, and her devoted furbaby, Little Man. Tara also leaves behind her lifelong best friend, Velva Rowe, of Bentonville, Arkansas, as well as many other dear friends and work family too numerous to name. Tara dedicated her career to public service, working as a dispatcher for 17 years with the City of Greer before joining the Town of Tryon in the same capacity. Her mastery of dispatching was unmatched, and she served her community with steadfast commitment and skill. A passionate traveler, Tara’s wanderlust was sparked during a transformative summer in Turkey as a high school foreign exchange student with America Field Service (AFS Intercultural Programs). This experience ignited a lifelong love for exploring new cultures and places. Above all, Tara will be remembered for her selflessness and her unwavering dedication to others. Her kindness and compassion touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. A memorial service to celebrate Tara’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon NC officiated by Bishop Dr. Stacy T. Glover and Brother William Mills. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. The family is at the home, 81 Cottonwood Ridge, Columbus, NC 28722.
