POLK COUNTY—Champions for Wildlife is inviting the community to some exciting activities this summer, with two free events the whole family will love.

First, Sunflower Daze at Looking Glass Creamery will take place from July 4 to July 7 and again from July 11 to July 14, where participants can pick free sunflowers. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, offering the opportunity to get outside and take home some beautiful flowers. Looking Glass Creamery also offers ice cream and cheeses for sale, and visitors can shop after picking sunflowers.

One easy way to support our wildlife/art educational programming is to make a donation while at the event. All donations made both weekends will be donated to Champions for Wildlife by Looking Glass Creamery to teach kids about nature using the transformative power of art. Champions for Wildlife is thrilled to be partnering with folks who truly care about their animals and are working to restore wildlife habitat on their beautiful farm.

The second event, which is all about pollinators, is the Pollinator Party. It’s happening at the Log Cabin at Harmon Field on July 25 and is perfect for kids in kindergarten through 5th grade. Families can learn about bees, butterflies, and other important pollinators. There will be a fun learning activity and a cool foil art project to help kids and grownups understand why these creatures are so important to our environment.

“We want to help kids and families connect with nature,” said Loti Woods, Executive Director of Champions for Wildlife. “These events are a fun way to learn about plants and animals that are important to our area.”

Each family will receive a free milkweed plant to take home and plant in order to help monarch butterflies who need milkweed to lay their eggs on.

Registration for the Pollinator Party is free but limited. To sign up, visit championsforwildlife.org.
