Tryon History Museum nominated Donnie Carruth for induction into the Second Wind Hall of Fame, and the Board of Second Wind Hall of Fame accepted the nomination. Donnie was officially inducted at the museum on Friday, June 28, with board members, friends, and relatives present.

Donnie has served as a docent for several years and is now a board member. He is serving for the second year as chairman of the September golf tournament, a significant fundraiser for the Museum. He has been an active member of Tryon Presbyterian Church, serving as a member of Session and chair of the Property Committee, and is a member of Kiwanis and serves on their board.

Donnie has delivered meals biweekly for Meals on Wheels in the Sunny View / Lake Lure area for seven years, and you will frequently see him at TFAC as a volunteer or working on a project. As an avid golfer, he has also served on the Board of Directors of Tryon Country Club.

Donnie is a native of the area. He left after high school and returned to Tryon eight years ago.  He served in the US Navy and then worked in the Textile and Chemical industry before retiring from General Electric. He graduated from Landrum High School, attended Mars Hill College and Spartanburg Methodist College, and graduated from Limestone College with a BA in history.

He has two children, loves golf and painting, and would like to be remembered for his willingness to help in any way he can and his strong sense of responsibility.

The mission of Second Wind is to identify those outstanding volunteers who contribute so much to the quality of life in our community and to provide recognition of retirees sixty years and over who had a useful and productive life continuing beyond retirement, while others paused to rest.  They caught a ‘second wind’  and began a new career of service to the community and to mankind.

Second Wind Hall of Fame is a 501(c)(3) organization and welcomes nominations for induction.  Requests for nomination forms may be sent to carolbrowning72@gmail.com.
