Educational facility offers fun way to beat the summer heat on July 4

 

COLUMBUS—The Polk County History Museum in Columbus will be open and welcoming visitors during the town’s Fabulous Fourth Celebration on Thursday, July 4.

Museum staff are asking the public to come in, celebrate freedom, and explore Polk County’s rich history during the day’s festivities.

“We invite the public to stop by and see our exhibits during the holiday,” says museum director James Metcalf. “The museum features many fascinating exhibits that tell the story of Polk County’s past, and there is no better time than the Fourth of July to learn more about the history of our area.”

Visiting the museum will offer a fun and educational way to beat the heat in its air-conditioned building. Admission is free, although donations are accepted.

The museum has collected thousands of historical pictures, artifacts, and articles for historical preservation and education and is constantly working with government offices, businesses, civic groups, churches, and individuals to answer questions for historical research and present educational programs to promote our local history.

The Polk County History Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the holiday. Its normal operating hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
