Vitale, Young earn all-state softball selection

Polk County’s Chloe Young and Sarah Vitale have been named to the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association 1A All-State team.

The two helped lead the Wolverines to a 9-12 record this season, with Polk reaching the second round of the state 1A playoffs.

Vitale hit .328 with 17 RBI and also pitched all but 3.2 innings this season for Polk, posting a 3.94 earned run average with 99 strikeouts.

A Gaston College signee, Young hit .467 in her final season at Polk County, driving in 10 runs, scoring 17 runs and lashing nine doubles.

East Wilkes’ Jayden Hutchison was named the 1A West Player of the Year, with teammate Chloe Andrews named the 1A West Pitcher of the Year.
