Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrests two on separate drug charges

POLK COUNTY—The Polk County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested two individuals suspected of trafficking drugs in the Mill Spring area.
According to Chief Jeff Ramsey with the PCSO, on Thursday, June 20, deputies arrested Jesse Ray Shelton, 39, of Tryon, on drug charges. The deputies were able to detain Shelton at his residence without incident.
Shelton was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver methamphetamine, among other drug and drug paraphernalia charges. He was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. Shelton is currently being held at the Polk County Detention Center on a $215,000 secured bond.
On Saturday, June 22, Polk County deputies conducted a traffic stop in the Mill Spring area that led to the detention of Braelyn Darnell Metcalf, 30, of Tryon. After suspecting that Metcalf may have had illegal drugs, deputies performed a search of the vehicle to discover several different drugs hidden inside.
Metcalf was arrested and charged with trafficking in opium or heroin and felony possession of cocaine, as well as other drug and drug paraphernalia charges. Metcalf was also charged with resisting a public officer and altering, stealing or destroying criminal evidence.
After arriving at the Polk County Detention Center, deputies discovered more drugs hidden on Metcalf’s person. He was then charged with possession of a controlled substance on jail premises.
Metcalf is currently being held at the Polk County Detention Center under a $520,000 secured bond.
