What’s the problem with being a seventy-year-old Swiftie?

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Dear Aunty Pam,

My husband and I are arguing over Taylor Swift (yes, we have that kind of time on our hands). He loves her. I told him he’s a dirty old man (he’s 70). I think she’s been with too many men and is a terrible role model for young women.

What do you think?

Dear J and R,

Aunty Pam thinks you are making some strong assumptions.

Why is the hubs a dirty old man because he loves the number one pop star in the world? Taylor is 34, not 16. And trust me, that billionaire goddess ain’t going for Rog, OK? Let the guy dream.

I’m curious to know who you think is a good role model for young women in the music industry these days. Rhianna? Miley Cyrus? The Singing Nun?

This entire subject chaps Aunty Pam’s hide. Why is this even a discussion? Are male pop stars with an active private life bad role models to their audience? Harry Styles has had tons of girlfriends—what does that make him, besides exhausted?

And most importantly, does that make me a dirty old woman, as I’ve had a crush on him since he performed in leather at the Grammys??

Taylor Swift is a singer/songwriter who doesn’t even show her belly button on stage. In fact, most of her outfits make her look like a majorette. She’s hardly Madonna. And if she were, again, it’s just silly to target women performers.

Take a breath, relax, and feel the relief that in six years, Taylor will be 40 and middle-aged. Then you can have something else to rail about.

Cheers, dears!

Aunty Pam
